Onehunga Mall Rd and Grey St - Intersection upgrade
Making the Onehunga Mall Rd and Grey Street intersection safer for all road users!
In response to concerns raised by locals and the travelling public, Maungakiekie-Tāmaki Local Board has prioritised pedestrian safety improvements on Onehunga Mall Road and Grey St. Auckland Transport plans to install a roundabout and pedestrian crossings to support this initiative.
This project is funded by the Local Board Transport Capital Fund. This fund is used to make improvements based on community priorities, which may not be covered by other programmes of work. The improvements will be delivered by Auckland Transport on behalf of your local board.
We are proposing the following safety and facility improvements:
Installing a mountable urban roundabout, including any associated signage and road markings.
Install pedestrian crossings to ensure all four legs of the intersection have crossing facilities.
Install one shared path with a cycle ramp on one of the roundabout legs.
- Move the current bus stop and install 'no stopping at all times' (broken yellow lines) to maintain clear visibility for drivers and pedestrians
These changes would result in the loss of 7 on street car parks
- Enhance the safety of drivers travelling through Onehunga
- Enhances safety and accessibility for pedestrians and cyclists
- Reduces the risk of accidents by providing a designated crossing area.
- Reduces the number of drivers exceeding the speed limit
- Improves the overall walkability of the neighbourhood.
