About the Project:

We’re making it safer and easier to walk, bike, and scoot along Greville Road.

New walking and cycling paths have been built along the motorway (SH1 and SH18) as part of Waka Kotahi NZTA’s Northern Corridor Improvements to give people more options to walk and cycle. Now we’re working on making it easier for people to get to them from nearby streets and ensure local connections are safer and easier to access.

One of these connections is Greville Road. We’re planning improvements along Greville Road to support safer, more accessible travel for everyone—whether you’re walking, cycling, scooting, or driving. These changes will improve local access to the shared path built along State Highway 1 and help more people choose active and sustainable ways to get around.

The changes we're making:

  • (5) Three paired crossings at Hugh Green Drive (two existing pedestrian crossings with new cycle crossings added, and one entirely new paired crossing)
  • (6) Reshaping the traffic islands at the intersection of Hugh Green Drive and Greville Road to support paired crossings
  • New tactile pavers to support accessibility
  • New signage, road markings, and cycle ramps
  • (2) A new shared path on the southern side of Greville Road (same side as the Gull), from Hugh Green Drive to just after Gull
  • (3) New judder bars to slow vehicle speeds near high-volume driveways

  • (1) A new protected cycle lane on the southern side of Greville Road (same side as Gull)
  • Reallocation of road space and removal of 25 parking spaces to improve visibility and access.

  • (1) A new protected cycle lane on the southern side of Greville Road (same side as Gull)
  • (4) A new raised paired crossing on Hauraki Crescent
  • New tactile pavers to support accessibility
  • New signage, road markings, and cycle ramps
  • Reallocation of road space and removal of 25 parking spaces to improve visibility and access.

Benefits to your community:

  • More travel choices: Safer options for walking, biking, or scooting along Greville Road that support your health, your whānau, and the environment
  • Better connections: Links to the SH1 shared path and other local cycleways and public transport
  • Health and wellbeing: Encourages active lifestyles and time outdoors in your neighbourhood
  • Safer for everyone: Footpaths and cycleways separate people from traffic, making it safer for tamariki to walk or bike to school
  • Inclusive design: Helps everyone get around, including older adults, children, and people with disabilities
