About the Project (2025)
We’re improving the footpath and roadside drains on Beach Haven Road, between Lancaster Road and Tramway Road. This is part of our regular Summer Road Reno renewals programme to make roads stronger, safer, and better prepared for bad weather.
The work programme will be completed in 4 stages, through 2 phases: (weather dependent)
Phase 1 prepares the road (drains, roadside edge, and footpaths)
This 9-week upgrade is the first phase over four stages to deliver this project as quickly as possible and will take place mostly in the evening. Stage 4 will be done during the day.
Phase 2 is the road rebuild and resurfacing to make it stronger and longer lasting.
This final stage will be carried out in late January 2026.
The Summer Road Reno renewals programme is part of our ongoing investment to maintain and improve Auckland’s transport network, making roads safer, more reliable, and helping to keep Auckland moving.
By upgrading and maintaining roads across the region, we’re making them safer, more reliable, and ready to support our growing city.

Improving stormwater collection
Laying new concrete footpath and roadside edge
Final resurfacing with new asphalt
Duration
Up to 9 weeks (weather dependent)
This work will be carried out in two phases, with 4 stages (broken into sub-stages to cause less disruption to nearby businesses) and will run consecutively. See below stage's breakdown drawing for information
Why two phases? • Preparation: prepares the road (drains, kerbs, footpaths) • Rebuild: full rebuild and resurfacing for a stronger road
Phase 1: Preparation work
Stage 1, 2A, 2B, 3A & 3B – Night work: 7pm to 5am from Sun 21 Sept (9 weeks)
Stage 4 only – Day work: 8am – 6pm from Mon 22 Sept (Applies to first 2 weeks only of the 9 weeks)

Why we're doing this work
Beach Haven Road’s drains, roadside edges and footpaths need renewal. This will help to:
Improve stormwater collection
Reduce flooding and improve stormwater drainage
Provide safer, smoother walking and driving access
Strengthen the road surface for the future
How travel is affected:
Phase 1: 9 weeks (weather dependent)
Access to homes and businesses will be managed. Driveway access may be restricted through different periods of time.
Night work: Stop/Go traffic management will be in place between 7pm and 5am. Traffic controllers will be onsite.
Day work (Stage 4 only): Between 8am and 6pm, traffic will either continue to move in both directions using a contra flow system or have temporary traffic lights for one-way travel through the site. • One side of the road will be closed at a time. • Traffic will be shifted across to the other side, with cones and signs guiding vehicles safely through. • Speeds will be reduced, so please drive carefully and expect short delays.
Phase 2 - to be advised
What to expect
We know construction, particularly at night – can be disruptive. We’ll try to keep noise levels down and we apologise for the inconvenience.
Plan ahead, follow temporary speed limits in place and drive carefully.
In advance of our start date there will be digital signs set up along the route to inform the community about the closure and traffic directions for surrounding roads, also see the maps on our webpage.
Take care while driving, walking, or cycling in the area.
Follow all traffic signs, signals, and directions for safety.
Signs will be in place and traffic managers will help keep things moving.
We aim to start work on time but factors outside our control, such as weather, could mean a delayed timeline. If the delay is significant, we’ll let you know and update the webpage regularly.
Expect traffic delays, especially during peak times.
Bus stops could be temporarily closed in the area, and some services will be affected – please use the AT mobile app or visit the bus stops and use the QR codes at the effected bus stops for more information.
Residents will be contacted 24 hours prior to the concrete pours to help accommodate any specific needs. If your driveway is restricted, you will need to park nearby and walk home. On-street parking will be limited.
Footpaths will remain accessible to local residents.
Council waste and recycling collection will continue as normal. If access to your bin collection spot is restricted, our team will assist you with an alternative location.
For more information about these types of work, please take a look at this video here - FH Resurfacing Work
Where we’ll be working
Before the work starts, digital signs will be set up along the route and near the town centre to inform the community about the closure and traffic directions for surrounding roads.
Benefits to the Community
Stronger road surface that lasts longer
Better drainage to improve stormwater collection
Safer walking routes with upgraded footpaths
