Dominion Road Alternative Cycle Route
About the Project
The Dominion Road Alternative Cycle Route is a quiet, low-stress north–south cycling corridor running parallel to Dominion Road, designed for children, older adults, and less confident riders.
The route stretches from New North Road in the north to the Oakley Creek Path in the south, bounded by Sandringham Road and Mt Eden Road.
Currently, the route faces challenges with inconsistent signage, unclear wayfinding, and several complex intersections, leading to confusion and safety concerns.
Auckland Transport is refreshing the route to make it safer, clearer, and more enjoyable for everyone - especially families and beginner cyclists.

Why We’re Consulting
We want to hear directly from the people who use - or avoid - this route:
- What’s working?
- What’s confusing?
- What would make it better?
Your feedback will help shape improvements to signs, markings, and the overall feel of the route so it’s easier to use and better connected.
What’s Happening?
We’re looking at the entire route to:
- Fix confusing intersections, missing signs, and awkward crossings.
- Refresh existing signage, markings, and ramps.
- Identify new destinations that are easy to link to the cycle route.
- Explore new opportunities for wayfinding, signs, and markings.
Clearer signage, and better markings will help cyclists navigate confidently and safely.
