Good news.

We're making changes to parking within the Waiata Shores development. This includes the area bounded by Gosper Road, Te Napi Drive, Orford Lane and Waituarua Drive.

Why are the changes needed?

We’ve heard from residents that finding parking around the café and children’s park on Gosper Road has become increasing difficult as the neighbourhood grows. Many people have told us the existing no stopping at all times (broken yellow line) markings mean there aren’t enough parking spaces for families and visitors to the area.

As the residential area has filled up, similar concerns have been raised on nearby streets. Listening to residents, we’re proposing changes to increase on-street parking where it’s safe to do so, while still making sure pedestrians remain visible and crossing points stay safe.

What we’re planning to do in early 2026

Gosper Road (outside the park)

  • More parking spaces: Remove existing no stopping at all time (broken yellow line) markings to create 12 new on-street parking spaces.
  • Install three sets of pedestrian side islands at the current crossing points to improve pedestrian safety and visibility.
  • Introduce P60 time-restricted parking to support short-stay visits to the café and park, created by removing the broken yellow lines.

Te Napi Drive

  • Upgrade no stopping at all time (broken yellow line) markings around the pedestrian island and pram crossing ramps to meet current standards.

Other intersections in the area

  • Apply consistent lengths of no stopping at all times (broken yellow lines) at pram crossings and intersections to maintain visibility and support pedestrian safety.

How this will benefit your neighbourhood

These changes aim to:

  • Make it easier for people to visit the café, park and local amenities.
  • Increase the amount of on-street parking where it is safe.
  • Improve visibility and safety at key crossing points and intersections
