Our response

Suggest parking should be valid during school hours

We know that having parking spaces on Tutere Road and Chestnut Road is crucial for residents and visitors. To make sure pedestrians can safely cross the road, we’ve removed only the necessary parking spaces. These restrictions apply all day to keep the crossing safe.

Suggest getting residents on Tutere Road with trees to clean up branches, bushes and leaves that drops on the footpath

Thank you for bringing this to our attention, your request has been passed on to our maintenance team for review. If you wish to follow up on this, please use this reference number CAS-917794-D2S2N8.

About the project

Improving safety in your neighbourhood – Tutere Road, Chestnut Road, Papatoetoe

We’ve received requests from your local community to address the safety concerns of cars travelling at high speeds and help school children cross the road safely.

What we are proposing

  • Installing a raised pedestrian crossing on Tutere Road.
  • Painting broken yellow lines on Tutere Road and Chestnut Road. The existing parking restriction will be retained, however a further 17 parking spaces will be removed to achieve the required visibility and to maintain traffic thoroughfare.
  • Upgrading the existing kerb ramp on Chestnut Road intersection to bring it up to standard.

TUTERE ROAD AND CHESTNUT ROAD, PAPATOETOE

Benefits and impacts

  • Provide a safe crossing point for pedestrians, particularly school children.
  • Raise pedestrians crossing the road to be at eye-level of approaching motorists, making them easier to see.
  • Slow down drivers.
  • Improve safety of the existing kerb ramp on Chestnut Road.

These improvements would remove 17 on-street parking spaces near the intersection to improve visibility. We acknowledge this can be inconvenient, so we have minimised the removal of parking as much as possible.

These safety improvements are supported by the Local Board Transport Capital Fund. This fund is used to make improvements based on community priorities, which may not be covered by other programmes of work.

The improvements will be delivered by AT on behalf of the Ōtara-Papatoetoe Local Board.
