Project Outcome

In July 2025 we asked the community to provide feedback on our proposal to add new crossings, kerb build-outs, refuge islands, and other features to make it easier for people to walk around and safer for drivers.

After discussing the proposed plans with the Howick Local Board and local people, Auckland Transport proposes the following plan.

Please see the final outcomes and decisions below.

Sites 1&2 - near the intersection of The Parade and Devon Road

Site 1 - The build outs and pram crossings at the intersection will be built.

Site 2 - After concerns were raised about boat trailer parking, by local people, and by Howick Local Board Auckland Transport will not build the crossing at # 23. This includes the broken yellow lines and flush median.

Sites 3&4 - near the intersection of The Parade and Wharf Road

Site 3 - A crossing near # 41 will be built.

Site 4 - Install new pedestrian crossing markings.

Sites 5 - near # 55 The Parade

After discussion with Howick Local Board Workshop, it was decided not to progress the pedestrian crossing outside #55 The Parade. The team and local board has concerns about visibility for the pedestrians and drivers, because cars are approaching an existing vertical crest when they are heading northbound

Sites 6&7 - near the intersection of The Parade and Laings Road

Site 6 - Modifications are planed to the Laings Road intersection and based on feedback from local people and from Howick Local Board, including:

• Remove central island at the Laings Road / The Parade intersection.
• Provide additional chevron signs and markings at the Laings Road / The Parade intersection to further alert motorists of the horizontal bend.
• Provide high friction surface on the downhill approach and the horizontal bend on the Laings Road / The Parade intersection.

Site 7 - Install additional warning signs and enhance the visibility of current signs by maintaining surrounding vegetation.

Construction is expected to begin in March 2026

Prior to construction, residents will be informed of the confirmed start dates and construction impacts.
