About the project
The Ōrākei local board has identified your neighbourhood for safety improvements. On their behalf, we are proposing to improve safety for people walking, jogging or riding their bikes and drivers too.
What we are proposing
Installing speed humps on Tahora Avenue, Mainston Road, Remuera
We have witnessed drivers recklessly speeding along Tahora Avenue and Mainston Road, using these roads as a dangerous shortcut instead of the designated main roads. We have also observed drivers:
• Crossing the centre line at the first bend of Tahora Avenue posing a risk to oncoming traffic
• Accelerating along Tahora Avenue (speeds reaching up to 70 kph)
• Ignoring the stop sign at the intersection of Mainston Road
• Drivers turning right into Mainston Road, speeding down the hill, and then accelerating northwards along Tahora Avenue
We are proposing to:
•Install speed humps at 3 locations on Tahora Avenue and Mainston Road
o 8 Tahora Avenue
o 20 Tahora Avenue
o 9 Mainston Road
•All 3 locations will include new signs
•The speed hump on Mainston Road will include 1 new streetlight and vehicle crossing reinstatement nearby this streetlight.
