About the project

There are two busy pedestrian crossings on Rathgar Road in Henderson, one near St Dominic’s Girls Catholic School and another near Waitākere College. These crossings are used a lot, especially before and after school.

We’ve heard concerns that parked vehicles close to the crossings can make it difficult for drivers to see people who are waiting to cross, particularly students.

The changes we’re making

To improve visibility and safety, we’ll be installing “no stopping at all times” markings (broken yellow lines) near each crossing. These changes will prevent parked vehicles from blocking the view of drivers and make it safer and easier for people, especially students, to cross the road.

Benefits to your community

  • Improves visibility for drivers to see students who cross the road
  • Enhances safety for people, especially students, who cross the road

What happens next

  • We are looking at installing these changes at the end of June 2026.
  • We will contact residents and businesses before any work begins. Painting the road markings will take one day in good weather conditions.
  • Any updates to the plan will be posted on our website.
