About the project

We’ve received requests from local businesses and community members to improve parking availability around the Rangipawa Road shops in Onehunga. There is a need for accessible mobility parking and better turnover of general parking spaces.

To address these concerns, we are proposing to introduce additional mobility parking and apply time limits to existing parking outside the shops.

The aim is to improve access to the shops by increasing parking turnover, making it easier for customers, visitors, and people with mobility needs to find a park throughout the day.

We invite you to share your feedback on this proposal.

What we're planning in October 2026:

  • Introduce one mobility parking space available at all times outside the shops.
  • Marking angled parking bays outside the shops on Rangiawa Road to better organise parking.
  • Adding limit lines to guide drivers to park parallel to the kerb, facing Maroa Road.
  • Introduce 60-minute parking limits (P60), operating from 8am to 9pm, Monday to Sunday.

Benefits to your community:

  • Make it easy for mobility card holders: Mobility card holders will have better chances to find parking while visiting the area.
  • More Parking Availability: With a 2-hour parking limit, more people can use the parking spaces throughout the day, making it easier for families and visitors to find a spot.
  • Support Local Businesses: Higher parking turnover means more visitors can access local shops, cafes, and local businesses, boosting sales and foot traffic.
  • Convenient for Families: Families visiting the area will have a better chance of finding parking nearby, making their visit more enjoyable.

What happens next?

  • It will take one to two days for the installation of the new markings and signs in good weather conditions. We know this may cause some inconvenience, and we will minimise this as much as possible while balancing safety concerns.

  • Please remember to park courteously and look for parking restriction signs. Vehicles parked illegally may receive infringement notices or be towed away.
