Why are the changes needed?

Parking around Kennedy Point has been adjusted over time following requests from the Waiheke community and the Waiheke Local Board, particularly to discourage long‑term vehicle storage in and around the ferry area.

While some changes have helped, AT continues to receive feedback from Kennedy Point Road residents about vehicles being parked on the street for extended periods. This can affect access to driveways, visibility along the road, and overall residential amenity.

We’ve reassessed the situation, including reviewing parking demand, safety considerations and past feedback. While parking demand is generally low, the concerns raised by residents have been ongoing. Following further discussions with the Waiheke Local Board, AT has agreed to consult again on a 72‑hour parking limit as a targeted way to address these issues.

What we’re planning to do (before June 2026)

  • Introduce a 72‑hour (three‑day) parking limit on selected sections of Kennedy Point Road
  • Introduce no stopping at all times restrictions on parts of Donald Bruce Road, particularly on the approach to the Kennedy Point car park

These changes aim to manage long‑stay parking and improve safety and access in specific locations.

You can see where these changes will be made on the attached plan.

How this will benefit your neighbourhood

If introduced, these changes are expected to:

  • Reduce the number of vehicles parked on Kennedy Point Road for long periods
  • Improve visibility and access near driveways and intersections
  • Improve safety on the approach to the Kennedy Point car park on Donald Bruce Road
