What we are doing

We are working to make it easier and safer for you to access the intersection of Prictor Street and Ingram Street in Papakura. The proposed roundabout will help slow vehicles and make it clearer and safer for people to move through the intersection, whether you are walking, driving, living nearby, working or visiting the area.

What we are proposing

We are proposing the following safety upgrades at the Prictor Street and Ingram Street intersection:

• Install a new fully mountable roundabout to help slow traffic and support safer crossing and turning movements from Ingram Street.
• Provide new pedestrian crossings: pedestrian refuge crossings at the roundabout on Prictor Street and Ingram Street East, and signalised crossing on Ingram Street west, outside 30 Prictor Street.
• Widen footpaths, realign kerbs and berms, and update road markings and signs to support the new layout.
• New high-friction surfacing before the new signalised crossing for the eastbound traffic on Ingram Street.
• Reconstruct the driveway outside 5 properties. This includes the following properties:
  • 18 & 18A Ingram Street
  • 20 Ingram Street
  • 30 Prictor Street
  • 35 Prictor Street
  • 37 Prictor Street
• Install new broken yellow lines (NSAAT) to keep parked vehicles clear of the crossings and improve visibility for pedestrians and drivers. As a result, 8 on-street parking spaces will be removed on Ingram Street, and 3 on-street parking spaces on Prictor Street.

This includes the following changes:

• On Prictor Street:

• Remove 3 parking spaces outside 28 Prictor Street.

• On Ingram Street:

• Remove 3 parking spaces outside 37 Ingram Street.
• Remove 2 parking spaces outside 1 View Road on Ingram Street West.
• Remove 3 parking spaces outside 30 ingram street.

These improvements will help make the intersection safer and more predictable for everyone using the area. Key benefits include:

• Better traffic flow and reduce delays.
• Safer and easier turning manoeuvres at the intersection.
• Safer crossing environment for people walking through the area.
• A clearer, more visible road layout.
• Improved visibility and lower speed environment, enhance safety for all road users.

Why we doing this

Improving safety

• Ten crashes were reported between 2020 and 2024, including one serious-injury crash and three minor-injury crashes.
• Most crashes involved drivers turning from Ingram Street and failing to give way to traffic on Prictor Street.
• Two crashes involved people crossing Ingram Street.

Making the intersection safer for everyone

• Our investigation identified unsafe gap selection and a lack of suitable pedestrian crossing facilities.
• The proposed improvements will reduce crash risk and make the area safer, more accessible and better connected.

What happens next

We will consider all community feedback and present a recommendation and feedback report to Papakura Local Board. Papakura Local Board will provide feedback prior to a final decision being made.
