The work we did:
We responded to concerns raised by the community to provide a safer crossing for people who regularly access the train station and local shops in Rānui, which includes tamariki of all ages.
Some of the key improvements included:
Converting the existing raised platform near 18 Pooks Road to a raised zebra crossing to slow drivers on approach, ensure they can be seen and give priority to people crossing as motorists must stop to let them cross safety.
Upgrading the existing pram crossings and yellow tactile pavers at the crossing points. Tactile pavers are (yellow guidance markers) to help visually impaired people find their way and safely cross the road. Pram crossing make it easier for people with prams and mobility users to cross safely.
Installing bollards at the parking bay on approach to the crossing and outside the shops to prevent cars from blocking visibility near the crossing.
Painting new bus stop markings for clearer and safer access to the bus stop near the crossing.
