The work we did
We improved footpath safety on Parkhurst Road, Parakai with safer, convenient and well-connected walking options locally.
This was part of our Walking Programme which commits to encouraging safe walking in your neighbourhood.
The improvements included:
Installing new footpaths and kerbs on the western side of Parkhurst Road, extending the footpath by 350 meters between the driveways of 199 and 241 Parkhurst Road.
Reconstructing driveways that will be impacted by the new footpath. Any work that alters a driveway shall be at our cost.
Improvements to the existing crossing island outside 199 Parkhurst Road including:
Widening the pram crossings on both sides. This helps people crossing to safely wait for a gap in traffic (while giving way to motorists) to finish crossing the road.
Installing tactile pavers, which are yellow guidance paving markers, to help the visually impaired cross safely.
Clearing vegetation and removing and relocating some trees to clear access for people using the footpath
Install new streetlights for improved safety at night for people on foot.
