Improving safety and accessibility on Rewa Road
Auckland Transport, in collaboration with the Franklin Local Board, is responding to community requests for a safer and more accessible walking route along Rewa Road.
Why Rewa Road matters
Rewa Road connects residents to key destinations including Maraetai Park, public transport, local shops, and the Maraetai Beach Community Hall. Currently, only one side of Rewa Road (from Carlton Crescent) has a footpath, which can be inconvenient and unsafe for pedestrians.
What’s happening
We’re installing a new footpath to improve safety, comfort, and connectivity for everyone who walks in the area. Here's what the project involves:
New footpath along Rewa Road
Regrading private driveways to align with the new footpath level
Reconstructing property entrance stairways where needed
Kerb build-outs to accommodate the footpath, which will remove three on-street parking spaces (outside numbers 15, 23, and 25)
Trimming trees to ensure clear and safe pedestrian access
Community benefits
Safer journeys – separating pedestrians from traffic reduces risk and encourages walking
Healthier lifestyle – walking becomes a more attractive and inclusive way to get around
Better access – improved walking routes to the beach, public transport, and community facilities
Sustainable travel – walking is a key part of Auckland Transport’s vision for a greener, more connected city
Whether you're commuting, heading to the beach, or enjoying a stroll through Maraetai, this project aims to make your journey safer and more enjoyable.
