Improving bus services in Māngere

On 2 November 2025 we're making changes to bus services in Māngere to provide better connections to Middlemore Hospital, train stations, the airport industrial area, and to make it easier to make local trips using buses.

These new bus services need some new bus stops. This webpage will give you more information about these new bus stops and give you the chance to give your feedback on them. Use the survey at the bottom of the page to give us your feedback. Feedback is open until 4pm, 30 July 2025.

These changes are funded by Auckland Council’s Climate Action Transport Targeted Rate (CATTR).

Why we’re making these changes

Whether people choose to drive, walk, cycle, bus, train or ferry their way around the region, Auckland Transport supports viable options that make journeys quicker, easier and safer.

This will enable what matters most to Aucklanders: a convenient, well-connected, accessible and reliable transport system.

Transport choices will meet the varying needs of Aucklanders so they can live their lives and enjoy our region now and into the future as we continue to grow.

Achieving the vision will require great public transport, an efficient and sustainable transport network and safe and seamless journeys for everyone.

The bus stops we’re adding

We're planning new bus stops on the following streets. View the plans below and if you have any feedback, please complete the survey at the bottom of the page.

The bus stop placements are based on a 400m spacing between stops, which gives optimal distance for people in the surrounding areas to walk to these stops.

Bus stops are planned for the following roads:

  • Mahunga Drive (Favona)
  • Wallace Road (Māngere Bridge)
  • Gray Avenue (Māngere East)
  • Portage Road (Māngere East)

  • Mahunga Drive (Favona)

We are proposing to put in four new pairs of bus stops along Mahunga Drive. The exact locations of these new bus stops are shown below. Some of the new bus stops are a relocation of existing bus stops to make them safer and more accessible. (These and other drawings are also downloadable as a PDF in the documents to the right, labelled Mahunga Drive proposed new bus stop locations.)

Image 1 (above) shows the proposed location of the two bus stops at 3 and 4 Mahunga Drive, as well as a new pedestrian refuge crossing.

Image 2 (above) shows the proposed location of two new bus stops at 13 and 20 Mahunga Drive, and a new pedestrian refuge crossing at 17 and 18 Mahunga Drive. The bus stop at 20 Mahunga Drive would include a bus shelter. These would be relocated bus stops, and the existing nearby bus stops at 11 and 12 Mahunga Drive will be removed.

Image 3 (above) shows the proposed location of two new bus stops at 29 and opposite 43 Mahunga Drive, and a new pedestrian refuge crossing at 39 Mahunga Drive. The bus stop opposite 43 Mahunga Drive would include a bus shelter.

Image 4 (above) shows the proposed location of two new bus stops at 63 and 64 Mahunga Drive, and a new pedestrian refuge crossing at 60 Mahunga Drive. Both bus stops at 63 and 64 Mahunga Drive are proposed to have bus shelters.

  • Wallace Road (Māngere Bridge)

We are proposing to update the operating hours of one bus stop on Wallace Road. This will be changed to operate at all hours (from 5:15am to 11:45pm), instead of only accommodating school buses. The exact locations of this bus stop is shown below. (This and other drawings are also downloadable as a PDF in the documents to the right, labelled Wallace Road updated bus stop location.)+

Image 5 (above) show the location of the existing bus stop opposite 12 Wallace Road, which will be changed to operate at all times.

  • Gray Avenue (Māngere East)

We are proposing to put in three new pairs of bus stops along Gray Avenue. The exact locations of these new bus stops are shown below. (These and other drawings are also downloadable as a PDF in the documents to the right, labelled Gray Avenue proposed new bus stop locations.)

Image 11 (above) shows the proposed location of two new bus stops near De La Salle College at 71 and opposite 81 Gray Avenue. It is proposed that both of these bus stops include shelters.

Image 12 (above) shows the proposed location of two new bus stops at 128 and 139 Gray Avenue.

Image 13 (above) shows the proposed location of two new bus stops at 164 and 171 Gray Avenue.

  • Portage Road (Māngere East)

We are proposing to put in one new bus stop on Portage Road and upgrade one existing bus stop. The exact locations are shown below. (This and other drawings are also downloadable as a PDF in the documents to the right, labelled Portage Road proposed new and upgraded bus stop locations.)
