We'll be in touch with local residents before any changes take place.

Community Feedback

Thank you for helping us make better decisions for your neighbourhood, informed by your local knowledge.

Community concern

Concerns that the proposed changes would make it harder for any future expansion of Mt Wellington highway to 4 lanes and create congestion and parking issues.

The proposed changes aim to improve pedestrian safety, especially for mobility scooter and pram users, and enhance accessibility to the existing bus stop. These changes will minimally disrupt traffic flow, as vehicles can use the median strip to pass cars entering the parking spaces.

Also, existing traffic lanes will not be reduced/impacted by the footpath upgrade as most of the change involves only the existing parking space, bus stop and grass berm.

We are responding to a current customer need, and while we acknowledge your concern, there is no near-future plan to expand Mt Wellington Highway to delay the proposal.

About the project

In response to requests from residents, we are proposing to upgrade the existing footpath on Mount Wellington Highway to address the narrow width of the existing footpath and difficulty of accessing the bus stop.

Making it safer to walk along Mount Wellington Highway, Mount Wellington

  • Widen footpath and reshape grass berms from #629 to opposite of #644 Mount Wellington Highway.
  • Upgrade kerb ramp to make it more comfortable for people with prams and mobility users.
  • Upgrade the existing bus stop by painting bus stop road markings including broken yellow lines (no stopping at all times). The changes would improve access to the bus stop.
  • Paint broken yellow lines (no stopping at all times) on the corners of the private road entrance by the Mobil Station on Mt Wellington Highway.
  • Trim the nearby trees and remove a tree opposite the property #638 Mount Wellington Highway to allow enough space to widen footpath.

Benefits and impacts

The upgrade would provide a safe and continuous footpath along this section of Mount Wellington Highway which would improve pedestrian safety and accessibility for all people including those with disabilities.
