About the project

We’re responding to concerns raised by the community about improving accessibility issues along McArthur Avenue in St Heliers. Cars parking on both sides of the narrow sections of the road and too close to the intersection make it hard for drivers to see approaching vehicles trying to navigate along the road.

To improve accessibility and make the road safer for everyone, we’re introducing new parking restrictions at the narrow sections and near the intersection.

The changes we're making in April/May 2026

  • Introduce “No stopping at all times” restrictions (broken yellow lines) from outside 17 McArthur Avenue to 83 Vale Road and at the intersection with Vale Road on both sides of the road. To clear access and improve visibility, we need to reallocate road space and remove approximately 10 parking spaces.

Benefits to your community

  • Easier for residents to access their homes.

  • Clears access for emergency services and large vehicles such as rubbish trucks.

  • Improves visibility for drivers to see oncoming cars, people walking, cycling and crossing the road - making the street safer for everyone.

What happens next

  • We will install these changes in April/ May 2026, any change to the plan will be updated on this page.

  • It will take one day for the installation of the new signs in good weather conditions. We know this may cause some inconvenience, and we will minimise this as much as possible while balancing safety concerns.

  • Please remember to park courteously and look for parking restriction signs. Vehicles parked illegally may receive infringement notices or be towed away.
