We’re responding to concerns from residents to improve vehicle access along Matuhi Rise in Henderson, as it can make it difficult for vehicles to get through safely.

In some locations having cars parked on both sides of the road presents access issues not just for residents, but to bus services, emergency services and large vehicles like rubbish trucks. Changes have been requested to improve visibility of oncoming traffic on Matuhi Rise and minimise congestion onto Edmonton Road.

The changes we’re making

  • Install “no stopping at all times” (broken yellow lines) from #2A Matuhi Rise to #12.
  • Starting at the existing no stopping at all times (broken yellow lines) outside #2A Matuhi Rise and continuing up the street to connect with existing no stopping lines near the bend outside #12.

This will create a continuous clear zone along one side of the road to to make it easier for vehicles to pass through and improve visibility for everyone.

A drawing showing the changes has been attached with this letter.

Benefits to your community

  • Improves visibility for drivers to see oncoming vehicles as well as people walking, cycling and crossing the road. This makes it safer particularly for tamariki (children), who can be hard to see when there are lots of cars parked on the road.
  • Minimise the chance of vehicles waiting to enter Matuhi Rise forming a queue onto Edmonton Road causing congestion
  • Easier access for residents to get in and out of the street
  • Clears access for emergency services and large vehicles such as rubbish trucks and buses
