About this project

Kia ora,

We’re responding to concerns raised by the community to improve walking safety on Matakana Valley Road. Currently, many vehicles are parked on or across the footpath, making it unsafe for people walking. As more families move into the area, more people are walking to the shops, school, bus stops, and around the neighbourhood.

Thanks to the Rodney Local Board Transport Capital Fund, we’ll be installing new wooden wheel stops and bollards to improve access to amenities and make it safer and easier for everyone walking.

The changes we’re making in early 2026:

  • Install new wooden wheel stops between #82 and #60 Matakana Valley Road.
  • Install new wooden bollards around the open drains in front of #82 and #74 Matakana Valley Road to make it safe for people walking.

A drawing showing the changes has been included below, and a copy of this drawing can be downloaded from the right-side panel on this webpage.

Benefits to your community:

  • Wheel stops will not allow vehicles to park on the footpath, improving safety for everyone with different accessibility needs on Matakana Valley Road.
  • Bollards will help protect people from slip and trip hazards and unopen drains.
  • Better access and connections to local shops, schools and bus stops.
  • Walking is good for the environment and good for your health. It helps reduce reliance on cars for local trips, decreasing traffic congestion and reducing our carbon emissions.

What happens next:

  • We will be in touch with residents before any work takes place.
  • Any change to the plan will be updated on our website.

How to contact us:

If you’d like to discuss our plans, share what you know about your area or let us know if there’s anything we’ve missed, email us at ATEngagement@at.govt.nz or leave us a comment on our website by 7 December 2025.
