About the project

We’re proposing improvements on Manuroa Road to make it safer and easier for people to get around the area. The project includes a new shared path, a new signalised crossing, changes to parts of the road and footpath, and parking changes in some locations.

What’s changing

New shared path
We’re proposing a shared path on the southern side of Manuroa Road, between 20 Manuroa Road and Takanini School Road, to improve connections for people walking, cycling and scooting.

New signalised crossing
We’re proposing a new signalised crossing near Princess Street to make it safer and easier for people to cross the road.

Road and footpath improvements
We’re proposing changes to parts of the road, kerbs, footpaths, pram crossings and berms to support the new layout and improve how the street works.

Parking and access

Based on the current design, 23 parking spaces would be removed. Most of these changes are around the Princess Street intersection and new crossing, around Oakleigh Avenue to support safer turning movements, and at nearby side streets and intersections where parking needs to be removed to improve visibility and safety.

How this connects to wider work in Takanini

This project is part of wider transport improvements in Takanini. It will help improve access to Takaanini Station and connect with the future walking and cycling bridge that will replace the rail level crossing on Manuroa Road.

Why we’re making these changes

  • Improve safety and access on Manuroa Road.
  • Make it easier for people to get to local schools, shops, homes and the station.
  • Support a street layout that works better for people of all ages and abilities.

Next steps

We’ll continue to develop the design and keep local residents, businesses and stakeholders updated as the project progresses.
