FAQs
Why are you proposing these changes?
There have been significant developments in Hobsonville and near Launch Road in the last few years which has led to an increase in parking demand.
Customers, developers and local businesses have raised concerns that no short-term parking is available due to vehicles parking all day.
Currently, there are no parking restrictions around the area and the need for parking changes arises from the increasing strain on parking resources.
I park all day on Launch Road to catch the ferry, what other options do I have?
There are several other options available.
Alternative off-street parking options are available within a short walking distance of Launch Road. Hobsonville Ferry is well served by busses.
The 112 and 114 run daily between 6am and 11pm.
The new route 12 goes live on 27 April 2025. The route will run every 30 minutes, 7am-7pm, 7 days a week. It replaces the 120 route which currently operates between Hobsonville and Constellation,
Why is the proposal for paid parking instead of time restrictions?
Hobsonville Point is very busy at most times of the day. Time restrictions (e.g. P120) would make it more difficult for ferry users to use any of these parks, at any time. Paid parking is the best option for people who want to park all day. It also gives those who want to park for a short time more chance of finding a park in the area.
Why are you planning to charge people to park and use public transport when ferry costs are already high?
The parking in this location is designed to service the various locations around Hobsonville Point. It is not a park and ride. Managing parking through pricing values precious road space and ensures those using the parking space are paying a small share of the associated costs. Parking income helps fund necessary maintenance and upgrades across our network. By putting a price on parking we encourage people to only park for a short time and give more people more opportunity to use the parking spaces, so it is fairer for everyone. We have paid parking at other town centre locations where people commute from, such as Devonport.
I park to catch the ferry – what other options do I have?
The 112 and 114 buses stop at Hobsonville Ferry Terminal.
When you use an AT HOP card or contactless payment method, you can transfer between AT buses, trains and ferries and pay just one fare for your entire journey. Just make sure you tag on within 30 minutes of tagging off your previous service and complete your journey within 4 hours.
I live on the street where paid parking has been proposed, will you be issuing parking permits?
We will not be using residential parking permits in these locations. The parking permit system is only intended for older houses which have none or limited off street parking, built before new planning rules came into effect in February 2022. These changes were implemented by central government as part of the Government's National Policy Statement on Urban Development (NPSUD).
