About the project

We’ve received requests to improve parking availability around Launch Road. The parking demand at Launch Road is at maximum capacity most of the time. Customers, local businesses and developers have raised concerns that no short-term parking is available due to vehicles parking all day.

What we are proposing and why

We’re proposing changes that will provide more parking options for visitors and potential customers to businesses in the area, increased availability and enable better parking management around Launch Road.

The changes we are proposing are:

  • $0.50 per hour
  • Monday to Saturday
  • Charges from 8am - 6pm
  • $5 daily cap for all day parking

Parking is a key part of the transport system and needs to be carefully managed to support and enable access to businesses.

Managing parking through time restrictions and pricing values our precious road space and ensures those using the parking space are paying a small share of the associated costs.

The proposal aligns with Room to Move: Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland’s Parking Strategy. Auckland Transport manages parking demand through time restrictions and paid parking initiatives.

The proposal aims to deliver the following benefits:

  • Parking availability: it improves parking availability for visitors and customers to the market and local businesses
  • Flexible parking: It provides greater flexibility in the length of stay for visitors and customers to the area.
  • Promotes alternative transport: encourages ride-sharing and the use of different modes of transport to the area.

We will also be marking parking bays, increasing the number of spaces available.

What we want your feedback on

  • The locations proposed for changes
  • The times of day the restrictions are in place
  • The days the restrictions are in place
  • Fee structure of the paid parking zone

Have we missed anything? Your local perspective and insights are invaluable for our decision-making process.

Have your say

We want your feedback by 4 July 2025.

What happens next

We will carefully consider all feedback and publish the final outcomes.
