About the project

We’re making changes to the berm outside Kaipara College on Rautawhiri Road to make it safer and more convenient for students walking to school and waiting on the grass berm for buses.

This project is the final stage of planned footpath improvements along Rautawhiri Road, funded by the Rodney Local Board Transport Targeted Rate.

The changes we’re making

  • Building a new footpath on the berm, including pram crossings to improve access for people with mobility needs and those using prams
  • Installing two new bus shelters to give students a covered area where they can wait for buses
  • Installing speed bumps and painting a red surface at the entrance to the drop off area
  • Placing a timber bridge over the tree roots to protect the existing tree

Benefits to your community

  • Footpaths help keep people safe by providing space away from traffic.
  • Wider footpaths give people more room to move and wait to cross.
  • Well-maintained footpaths are safer for everyone walking, scootering, or biking.
  • Better-connected footpaths make it easier to get to schools, parks, public transport and local places.

What happens next

  • We are looking at installing these changes in September 2026
  • Any updates to the plan will be posted on this webpage.
  • We will be in touch with the local residents and businesses prior to any construction taking place.
