Industry Road and Southdown Lane, Penrose - Minor Intersection Upgrade

About the project

We’re inviting your feedback on proposed changes to improve safety and operations at the intersection of Industry Road and Southdown Lane.

This intersection has been identified as high-risk, with six reported crashes between 2020 and 2024, five resulting in injuries, and four occurring at night.

To address these concerns, we propose changing the exit of Industry Road to a Give Way priority and making minor infrastructure improvements.

Proposed changes include:

• Moving the Give-Way priority from Southdown Lane to Industry Road.
• Rebuild the kerb at the corners of Industry Road.
• Installing new signage and road markings including red surface to tighten the intersection visually.
• Reconstructing a short section of footpath and adding new pram crossings.
• Upgrading existing street lighting.
• Installing new broken yellow lines (no stopping at all times) at the corners and on Southdown Lane.

Benefits and impacts

• Safer navigation for heavy vehicles – parking removal will allow trucks to track through the intersection without hitting obstacles.
• Better lighting to reduce night-time crashes.
• Encourage slower driver speeds approaching the intersection.
• Lower risk of costly incidents – fewer crashes mean less downtime and disruption for businesses.
• Improve pedestrian visibility and ensure heavy vehicles can safely navigate the intersection. This will require the removal of 5 parking spaces.
