Improving safety on Whangaripo Valley Road, Whangaripo

Kia ora,

To improve safety, we’re proposing to install new guardrails near the bridge between #375 to #480 Whangaripo Valley Road.

Whangaripo Valley Road is a rural arterial road connecting SH1 with Pakiri Beach and Matakana, frequently used by heavy vehicles. In the recent years, there have been 2 serious crashes due to vehicles losing control near the bridge. The proposed changes will improve safety for all road users by reducing the risk of serious accidents.

The changes we’re planning to make

• Installing new safety barriers and widening the road edge along some sections of Whangaripo Valley Road
• Construction of a retaining wall to hold the safety barriers in place, outside #413 Whangaripo Valley Road
• Shifting the waiting line further back near the bridge, to allow larger vehicles to pass safely.
