About the Project
We’re improving footpath safety on Duke Street to provide safe, convenient, and well-connected walking options in your community. This project is in response to community feedback and aims to create a safer, more accessible walking route for everyone in the community, including young Tamariki.
The changes we’re making in late 2026:
- Install a new footpath outside property numbers #14 #10 #8 #6 #4 #2 on the southern side of Duke Street to improve access and connectivity for people on foot.
- Install a new footpath and kerb outside #18 Duke Street to improve access and connectivity for people on foot.
- Install a small section of new footpath outside 1 Wautaiti Drive to improve access and connectivity for people on foot.
- Paint new "No Stopping At All Times" (Broken Yellow Lines) outside #18 Duke Street, #14 Duke Street, #11 Duke Street, #1 Wautaiti Drive, and #1030 Coatesville Riverhead Highway. To improve visibility for pedestrians and improve safe access for traffic we are removing approximately 15 street parking spaces in this area.
- Reconstruct driveways outside #2 #4 #6 #8 #10 #14 #18 Duke Street that will be impacted by the new footpath. Any work that alters a driveway will be at our cost.
- Apply new road markings in this section of Duke Street to guide drivers to stay in the road lane.

Benefits to your community:
- Well-maintained footpaths are safer for people who walk.
- More footpaths make it easier and more stress-free for the community to move around the neighbourhood, offering better connections to schools, parks, public transport, and other local amenities.
- Walking and cycling are good for the environment and good for your health. They help reduce reliance on cars for local trips, decreasing traffic congestion and reducing our carbon emissions.
What happens next:
- We will be in touch with local residents and businesses prior to any work taking place.
- Any changes to the plan will be updated on our website.
