About the project

We’re responding to requests to improve parking and safety for everyone between 41-49 Barry Point Road in Takapuna.

We’ve heard from local businesses that parking can be tricky, and some vehicles have been blocking driveways. These changes will help free up space, make it clearer where people can park, and improve visibility for drivers and people on foot.

The changes we're making by December 2025

  • Remove no stopping at all times (broken yellow lines) outside #49 Barrys Point Road, to create more parking space.
  • Installing white parking bay markings to make it clear to drivers where they can park.
  • Installing two-hour time restrictions, Monday to Saturday, 8am to 6pm outside #41 & #49 Barrys Point Road.
  • Formalising no stopping at all times (broken yellow lines) across the driveway outside #49 Barrys Point Road to highlight that it is illegal to park over a driveway.
  • Adding a new Fire Hydrant marking (hatch) to keep the area around it clear for emergency access.

Benefits to your community

  • More parking spaces for customers and visitors.
  • Easier access for local businesses and deliveries.
  • Improves safety and visibility out of driveways between #41 and #49 Barrys Point Road.
  • Improves visibility for drivers to see oncoming cars, people walking, cycling and crossing the road, making it safer, particularly for tamariiki (children).
  • Clears access and keeps the lane clear for traffic, particularly during peak hours and the morning and afternoons.

What happens next

  • Any change to the plan will be updated on our website.
  • It will take one day to paint the road marking in good weather conditions.
  • We know this may cause some inconvenience, and we will tried to minimise this as much as possible while balancing safety concerns.
  • Please remember to park courteously and avoid blocking driveways. Vehicles parked illegally may receive infringement notices or be towed away.
