About the project

We’re responding to safety concerns raised by the community to improve visibility and safety issues near the intersection of Manuwai Road and Watea Road, Torbay.

Right now, cars parking too close to this intersection are forcing vehicles to veer across the centre line of the road to get through. It can lead to collisions, increasing the risk of head-on or side-swipe crashes and is a danger to drivers and other road users.

The changes we're making by April 2026

  • Paint no stopping at all times (broken yellow lines) at the at the bend of Manuwai Road and Watea Road intersection. This clears access and improves visibility by preventing vehicles from parking at the entry and exit points of the street.

Benefits to your community

  • clears congestion and ensures ease of access for all vehicles closer to the intersection of Manuwai Road and Watea Road, including services like waste removal and emergency services.
  • Improves visibility for drivers to see oncoming cars, people walking, cycling and crossing the road, making it safer, particularly for tamariki (children).
  • Supports smoother, safety traffic flow through these areas.

What happens next

  • Any change to the plan will be updated on our website.
