About the project
We’re responding to safety concerns by the community to improve visibility and safety issues near 452 Beach Road, Murrays Bay.
Beach Road is a busy road with a high volume of through traffic, including heavy vehicles. Right now, cars parking too close to this intersection are forcing larger vehicles to veer across the centre line of the road to get through. It can lead to collisions, increasing the risk of head-on or side-swipe crashes and is a danger to drivers and other road users. It also makes it harder for residents trying to see when pulling in and out of their driveways.
We have previously engaged with the community about installing BYL (broken yellow lines) at the intersection of Beach Road and Scarboro Terrace. Based on feedback from the community we are now updating our plans to install broken yellow lines outside 456,458 and 460 Beach Road.
The changes we're making by February 2026.
Paint no stopping at all times (broken yellow lines) on the entrance and exit points of the intersection of Scarboro Terrace and Beach Road. This clears access and improves visibility by preventing vehicles from parking at the entry and exit points of the street.
Paint no stopping at all times (broken yellow lines) outside 456, 458 and 460 Beach Road, to make it safer for people to cross and to allow safe access for the bus services.
Benefits to your community
Clears congestion and ensures access for all vehicles closer to the intersection of Beach Road and Scarboro Terrace, including services like waste removal and emergency services.
Improves visibility for drivers to see oncoming cars, people walking, cycling and crossing the road, making it safer, particularly for tamariki (children).
Supports smoother, safer traffic flow through these areas.
What happens next
We will review all feedback or insights provided by the community.
We will be in touch with local residents and businesses prior to any work taking place.
Any change to the plan will be updated on our website.
It will take one day to paint the road markings in good weather conditions.
We know this may cause some inconvenience, and we will minimise this as much as possible while balancing safety concerns.
Please remember to park courteously and avoid blocking driveways. Vehicles parking illegally may receive infringement notices or be towed away.
