About the project
We’re responding to requests from the community to improve access, visibility and safety for people walking on Sycamore Drive in Sunnynook.
Sycamore Drive is a busy residential road. Right now, vehicles parked outside 121 and 123 Sycamore Drive make it hard for trucks to safely exit and turn onto the road. These parked cars also block the view for drivers, making it difficult to see people walking along the footpath — especially children going to and from nearby schools.
To fix this and make the area safer, we’re planning changes to keep this part of the street clear and reduce the risk of potential collisions between vehicles and people walking.
The changes we're making in March 2026
Installing no stopping at all times (broken yellow lines) between 121 and 123 Sycamore Drive.
Benefits to your community
Easier access for businesses to get in and out of the street.
Trucks, businesses, and residents can enter and exit driveways safely and without delays.
Improves visibility for drivers to see, people walking, cycling and crossing the footpath - making the footpath safer for everyone to get around especially to reach the schools nearby.
Clears access for emergency services and large vehicles such as rubbish trucks.
What happens next
Any change to the plan will be updated on our website.
It will take one day for the installation of the new signage in good weather conditions.
We know this may cause some inconvenience, and we will minimise this as much as possible while balancing safety concerns.
Please remember to park courteously and avoid blocking driveways. Vehicles parked illegally may receive infringement notices or be towed away.
How to contact us
If you would like to discuss our plans, share what you know about your area or let us know if there is anything that we have missed, email us at ATEngagement@at.govt.nz by 18 December 2025.
