Consultation Outcome
After considering all the feedback, suggestions and revisiting the proposal, we have made a change to the original design.
In the new design the flush media strip will be removed and replaced with a centreline, to clearly indicate no stopping or parking in the middle of the road.
We are proceeding with the proposal after making changes based on the consultation feedback.

Summary of the feedback count:
We received 17 feedback through the online survey and 01 email submissions.
- 14 people expressed assurance that the changes would benefit the community.
- 3 individuals stated that the changes would not benefit the community.
- 1 respondent mentioned that the impact would be both positive and negative.

About the project
We have received requests from the community and Dawson Primary School to address safety concerns for school children crossing at Haumia Way due to cars travelling at high speed. There is a high number of students using the crossing because it is close to the school's main gate.
This project is supported by the Ōtara-Papatoetoe Local Board and is funded through the Local Board Transport Capital Fund. This fund is used to make improvements based on community priorities, which may not be covered by other programmes of work.
What we are proposing
To improve pedestrian safety on Haumia Way we are proposing to:
• Upgrade the existing pedestrian refuge island to a raised pedestrian crossing
• Build out the kerb to shorten the crossing distance
• Install concrete islands and additional streetlights to ensure the crossing is safe at all times
• Remove one tree to accommodate the raised crossing
Benefits and impacts of the proposal
• Raising the crossing alerts drivers to slow down on approach, especially since many people cross here.
• Provides a safe crossing point for the community, particularly students attending Dawson Primary School and Tangaroa College.
• Improves visibility and ensures people crossing can be seen by motorists.
• Encourages motorists to travel at safer speed.
These proposed changes will not result in any carpark losses.
What we want your feedback on
We are seeking feedback from nearby residents and the schools on our proposal to upgrade the existing crossing refuge to a raised crossing.

We anticipate implementing these changes during the Spring/Summer 2024 school holiday period.
