Great North Road and Hepburn Road, Glendene - Intersection Upgrade is finished!

The work we did:

This project aimed to upgrade the intersection of Great North Road and Hepburn Road in Glendene. The Intersection Upgrade was completed in January 2025.

Some of the key improvements included:

• Removal of the bus lay at the northwest corner, and the bus stop, shelter, and road markings were relocated to the northwest corner outside 4191 Great North Road.
• Removal of the bus bay on the southwest corner, and the bus stop relocated closer to the intersection.
• Slip lanes on Hepburn Road were removed, and new footpaths and grass berms were added to the northern side of the intersection, including the removal of guard rails.
• Install a new pedestrian and cyclist crossing across Hepburn Road.
• Install a new pedestrian crossing on Great North Road on the Western side of the intersection.
• Installed two gentle speed bumps on either side of the crossing with supporting signs to warn drivers to slow on approach.
• Two advanced stop boxes were painted at the intersection on Great North Road heading west to improve cyclist visibility and safety.
• Rebuilt the existing driveway into the Leisure Centre car park.
• Extend the broken yellow lines (no stopping at all times) from the intersection to outside 1 Hepburn Road.
• Widen the footpath on the southern side of the intersection along Great North Road.
