Consultation Outcome

 After reviewing the feedback we received, we are proceeding with no changes on our proposal to paint broken yellow lines and install “No Stopping off roadway” (no parking on berms) signage on Fleming Street and Alfriston Road in Manurewa.

What happens next

We anticipate these changes will be installed by March 2025.

About the project

We’ve received requests from the community to improve visibility and address safety concerns of cars parking on berms on Alfriston Road and too close to the intersection of Fleming Street and Alfriston Road.

Cars parked near the intersection present a danger to drivers and other road users. They cause visibility issues for drivers and people crossing the road, making it difficult for drivers to turn in and out of Fleming Street.

• Painting 15 metres of broken yellow lines (no stopping at all times) on the western side and nine metres of broken yellow lines on the eastern side of the corners at the intersection of Fleming Street and Alfriston Road.
• We need to remove two on-street parking spaces to improve visibility coming around the corner.
• Installing “No stopping off roadway” (no parking on berms) signage outside 36A, 37, 40 and 43 Alfriston Road.

Benefits and impacts

This project aims to improve road access and visibility for all road users.

We want to work with you to deliver safer roads in your neighbourhood. These changes would:

• Clears and ensures ease of access for all vehicles into and out of Fleming Street, including waste removal and emergency services.
• Improves visibility for drivers to see oncoming cars, people walking and crossing the road, making it safer.

 Why this is important – no cars parked on berms.

• Vehicles parked on the grass berm present visibility issues of people, street signs and sight lines at intersections.
• Parking on berms is a danger to people on foot, as the cars obstruct them from view, and they can’t be seen crossing roads or walking.
• It causes visibility issues for drivers reversing out of driveways and access issues for people who live here.
• Parking on the berm can damage underground utilities and the grass, especially in wet weather.
• These signs will remind drivers not to park on the grass berms, and these areas will be subject to parking enforcement.
• We remind all drivers to park correctly and avoid blocking driveways. Vehicles parked illegally may receive infringement notices or be towed away.

We are seeking feedback from nearby residents on the proposed changes and the extent of broken yellow lines.
