About the project

In January 2025, we installed rubber speed cushions at the intersection of Flat Bush School Road and Rashni Road to reduce vehicle speeds and improve pedestrian safety in the developing Flat Bush neighbourhood.

Listening to the school and resident community, we are pleased to inform you that with the support of the Howick Local Board we have secured funding for a pedestrian zebra crossing with speed cushions.

The changes we’re making by February 2026:

• Installing new zebra crossing (not raised)

• Relocating and installing new speed cushions on approach to the crossing

• Installing new streetlighting to brighten the crossing for drivers and pedestrians

• Installing kerb ramps, appropriate road signage and road marking

FLAT BUSH SCHOOL ROAD, FLAT BUSH DRAWING

Benefits to your community:

Many pedestrians, including school children, cross this section of Flat Bush School Road to reach the existing footpath on the northern side of Flat Bush School Road, near Rashni Road. In 2024, a child was injured by a vehicle when crossing the road. The crossing helps to reduce vehicle speeds, improve driver awareness of pedestrians crossing the road, improve pedestrian safety and accessibility to the crossing.

What happens next

Any change to the plan will be updated on this page.

We will be in touch with the local residents and businesses prior to any construction taking place.
