Crown Street, Royal Oak - P30 heavy motor vehicle parking and extending no stopping at all times
Consultation Outcome
We thank everyone who provided feedback on our proposal to convert three general parking spaces on Crown Street, Royal Oak, into a heavy motor vehicle parking area to improve access and traffic flow.
A total of 24 submissions were received, including 16 submissions through the online survey and 8 submissions via email.
- Support the proposal: 10 responses (42%)
- Oppose the proposal: 12 responses (50%)
- No response selected: 2 responses (8%)
Overall, more submitters opposed the proposal than supported it. Two submitters did not indicate whether they supported or opposed the proposal. After carefully considering all feedback received, including the concerns raised by the community, we have decided not to proceed with the proposed parking changes.
What happens next
Auckland Transport will not proceed with the proposed P30 heavy motor vehicle parking area and associated parking changes on Crown Street.

Thank you for helping us make better decisions for your neighbourhood, informed by your local knowledge.
Public engagement results show that community views on the proposed changes were mixed. Half of respondents (50%) considered that the proposed changes would not benefit the community, while 42% considered they would benefit the community. The remaining 8% did not indicate whether they supported or opposed the proposal.
Some submitters supported the proposal, particularly for its potential to:
- Improve access and traffic flow
- Provide a legal waiting area for heavy vehicles servicing local businesses
- Reduce the need for trucks to park illegally on Crown Street and surrounding roads
The main concerns raised by submitters were:
- Truck parking, congestion, and safety concerns
- Residential parking impacts
- Delivery management and business responsibility
- Use of public space for private business operations

We’re proposing to convert three general parking spaces on Crown Street, Royal Oak into a heavy motor vehicle parking area. This would help improve access for everyone and provide a safe and legal place for delivery trucks serving the nearby businesses to park.

Why we are doing this
We’ve received a request to improve the overall parking situation and enable access for delivery trucks that service nearby businesses and, at times, need to park on Crown Street.
Deliveries can only be made between 8am and 3pm, which can result in some trucks arriving at the same time. There is currently no designated area for trucks to wait while the loading area is occupied. As a result, some trucks stop illegally on Crown Street while waiting, which can affect traffic flow, visibility, and access for other road users.
Providing a dedicated heavy motor vehicle parking area would:
- Improve access and traffic flow for all road users on Crown Street.
- Provide a safe and legal parking area for delivery trucks serving nearby businesses.
- Reduce instances of illegal parking in the middle of the road, including stopping on the flush median or over broken yellow lines.
- Support local business operations while creating turnover so trucks can use the same parking space.
- Outside the operational hours, anyone would be able to use the repurposed parking spaces as unrestricted parking.

We will consider all community feedback and present a recommendation and proposal outcome to Puketāpapa Local Board. Puketāpapa Local Board will provide feedback prior to a final decision being made.
