Traffic signals for Cosgrove Road intersection

Our plan is to install traffic signals and pedestrian cross walks on all approaches of the intersection.

The stop-controlled intersection at Cosgrave Road experiences queuing and delays due to the difficulty of turning onto the busy Clevedon Road. As a result, drivers tend to take risky manoeuvres which were reflected in the noticeable number of intersection crashes. Additionally, there are few safe pedestrian crossing points near the local primary school.

The changes we’re proposing:

• Install traffic signals at the intersection of Cosgrove Road and Clevedon Road. The new traffic signals will be coordinated with other signals in the area.
• Install new shared paths with cycle ramps at the intersection
• Install signalised pedestrian crossings on all approaches at the intersection
• To accommodate this upgrade, we need to remove 4 on-street parking spaces.
• Reinstatement of existing driveways within the intersection
• New road markings, appropriate signage and streetlighting to support the upgrade

How this will benefit your neighbourhood

By signalising the intersection, we can achieve:

• Balanced green light phasing for drivers on all approaches. This contrasts with the current situation where turning left Cosgrove Road traffic have priority.
• Improved efficiency of the intersection and the ability to quickly adjust and respond to traffic flows at peak times and throughout the day.
• Reduced unsafe manoeuvring due to driver frustration.
• Safe and controlled pedestrian and cyclist crossings.
