About the project

As part of our Road Safety Programme, we’re responding to safety concerns along Coatesville- Riverhead Highway between #1173 and #9 Grove Way.

This area has been identified as high-risk for crashes.

Between 2020 and 2024, there were three crashes along this section of road — two serious injury crashes and one non-injury crash. One of these involved a person who was hurt while crossing the road.

Many people walk and cross here to reach bus stops and local places. Poor driver behaviour, including loss of control, has made this area unsafe.

We’re making changes to help keep everyone safe — people walking, driving, or riding through.

The changes we’re making

  • Paint two new red "SLOW" road markings on this section of Coatesville- Riverhead Highway to remind motorists that they need to slow down
  • Install a traffic island at the median outside property 1156 Coatesville- Riverhead Highway. This will provide a safer place for people to cross near the bus stop and make drivers more aware of people walking.
  • Install new road signs to warn drivers to slow down and look out for people walking and crossing the road

Benefits to your community

  • Increases driver awareness and encourages appropriate speeds
  • Better signs and road markings will help guide drivers who are unfamiliar with this stretch of the road to drive to the conditions, manage their speed and travel through safely.
  • Improves safety by clarifying right of way and minimising risk of collisions
  • Make the road safer for everyone who lives, works, or travels through the area

What happens next

We will install these changes before the end of June 2026.

Any change to the plan will be updated on this page.

We will be in touch with the local residents and businesses prior to any construction taking place.
