About the project
We’re responding to requests to improve parking on a section of Heaphy Street in Blockhouse Bay and make the area safer for everyone.
We’ve heard from local businesses and the community that parking outside #2 and #7 Heaphy Street can be difficult at busy times. These changes will help free up space, make parking clearer, and improve visibility for people driving, walking and accessing nearby shops.
The changes we're making in April 2026
Applying a one-hour (P60) parking limit, outside #2 and # 7 Heapy Street, from Monday to Saturday, 8am to 6pm.
Parking remains unrestricted from 6pm to 8am Monday to Saturday.
Parking will also stary unrestricted all day on Sundays, supporting those attending the nearby church.
Benefits to your community
More available parking spaces for customers, visitors and nearby businesses.
Easier access for deliveries and people visiting local shops and services.
Improves safety and visibility out of driveways on Heaphy Street.
Improves visibility for drivers to see oncoming cars, people walking, cycling and crossing the road, making it safer for everyone especially tamariki (children).
What happens next
Any change to the plan will be updated on our website.
It will take one day for the installation of the new signage in good weather conditions.
We know this may cause some inconvenience, and we will minimise this as much as possible while balancing safety concerns.
Please remember to park courteously and avoid blocking driveways. Vehicles parked illegally may receive infringement notices or be towed away.
How to contact us
If you would like to discuss our plans, share what you know about your area or let us know if there is anything that we have missed, email us at ATEngagement@at.govt.nz or leave us a comment on our website by 18 December 2025.
