Captain Springs Rd pedestrian safety improvements are now complete.

.The completed works include:

• Installation of pedestrian side islands at the existing zebra crossing to improve safety and visibility
• High-friction surfacing on the approaches to the crossing to help drivers stop more quickly and safely
• Footpath and kerb ramp upgrades to improve accessibility for people using prams, wheelchairs and mobility aids
• "Slow Down" road markings to alert drivers as they approach the crossing
• Parking changes near the crossing to improve visibility for pedestrians and drivers
• Broken yellow lines to discourage unsafe parking and maintain clear sightlines
• Additional side islands to deter illegal parking and help create a slower-speed road environment

About the project

This project was developed in response to requests from the local community to improve road safety at the existing zebra crossing outside Te Papapa School on Captain Springs Road.

Feedback highlighted concerns about driver visibility and the safety of people crossing the road, particularly school students, families and other pedestrians using the crossing. To address these concerns, we designed pedestrian safety improvements to make the crossing easier to see, improve accessibility and encourage drivers to take greater care when approaching the crossing.
