Birkenhead Wharf bus parking changes

About the project

To provide more space for buses at Birkenhead Wharf to ensure they can manoeuvre safely and without incident Auckland Transport plans to extend the length of the bus stop outside the ferry terminal.

This will give bus drivers better access into and out of the bus stop.

This would remove two 2-minute general parking spaces behind the bus stop.

To compensate, two of the eleven P120 spaces outside the entrance to the ferry terminal would become P2 spaces.

What we are proposing

• Remove two P2 car parks spaces from behind the bus stop and extend the bus stop.
• Replace two of the P120 carpark spaces with two P2 carpark spaces.

Benefits and impacts

• There have been a number of incidents over the years between buses and cars in this area. We want to reduce the risk of this.
• Clearer parking spaces will make it easier for all users to understand how the spaces are used.
