Project update
The Aviemore Drive, Highland Park – Roundabout, and Pedestrian Safety Improvements project is reaching it's final stages!
This project has been under construction for the past three months, and as it draws to a close we will need to close a section of Aviemore Drive and Highland Park Drive for three days to complete the roundabout construction, asphalt resurfacing and line marking.
If you plan to travel through the area during this time, please plan ahead and follow all signs and detour routes.
We know construction at night can be very disruptive. We will monitor our vibration and dust levels and do our best to keep noise to a minimum.

Project summary
Everyone across Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland should be able to get to where they need to and back home safely. This includes people in cars, on bikes, on foot, on scooters, or on mobility devices.
To support the speed limit change along Aviemore Drive and to keep Aucklanders safe, we proposed some changes:
- At the Highland Park Drive intersection AT consulted on installing a roundabout with pedestrian and cyclist crossings on all legs of the intersection. We also proposed to install cycle paths and separators near the intersection so people on bikes can navigate the roundabout safely.
- Between Lewisham Street and Aberfeldy Avenue we also proposed to install a raised pedestrian crossing and upgrades to the bus stops to support the changes.
Consultation outcome
After reviewing all the feedback received, we will proceed with changes to the proposal:
- We will not proceed with the raised pedestrian crossing between Lewisham Road and Aberfeldy Avenue. However, we will continue to monitor this area for future improvements.
- We will proceed with the roundabout with pedestrian and cyclist crossings at the Highland Park Drive and Aviemore Drive intersection as well as the cycle lane at this location.

How did we reach this outcome?
- We considered feedback received from the local community, including key stakeholders such as emergency services and elected members, and those directly impacted by the proposed changes.
- Many locals have told us in their feedback and during our visit to local businesses that the Highland Park Drive and Aviemore Drive intersection is dangerous and confusing to navigate.
- Installing the roundabout will make it easier and safer to navigate for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists travelling along Aviemore Drive.
