About the project

We are making it easier to enjoy local facilities near Deacon Point reserve Riverhead Point Drive, Riverhead.

What we’re proposing

  • Time limits of 120 minutes will apply to the eight parking spaces on Riverhead Point Drive and seven parking spaces on William Blake Way, 7 days a week, 24/7.

Benefits of this proposal

  • Makes it easier for everyone to find short term parking to use the reserve and its facilities.
  • Ensures fairness with the high demand in this area.

Proposal Outcome

After reviewing all of the feedback we received, this project will proceed without changes.

Community Concerns

Concerns that it could increase vehicle traffic and less people will walk to the reserve.

While this system may work currently the reserve serves a wider community, not just those who can walk to it. Monitoring and enforcement are only likely to be required if vehicles park illegally. The reserve is likely to become more popular over time.

Concerns that there is limited street parking for residents and visitors.

Visitors are still able to park in these spaces for up to 2 hours. Vehicles are able to be parked legally on streets outside properties where there are no restrictions. The parking restrictions are only during the day and are still able to be used by residents and visitors for overnight parking.

If vehicles start parking on berms signage can be installed to enable enforcement.

Concerns that two-hour time restrictions aren’t enough.

For those that want to access the reserve for longer than 2 hours there is plenty of available unrestricted parking on-street.

Suggestions

The carpark is mostly used by visitors.
