Consultation has concluded

About the project

We’ve received concerns from the community and Sir Edmund Hillary Collegiate Junior School with regards to safety and access issues caused by vehicles parked on Franklyne Road.

The road becomes narrow when cars are parked on both sides of the road which presents safety risks for nearby school children during school hours and access issues for residents and emergency services.

What we are proposing

  • Broken yellow lines (no stopping at all times) will be from outside #9 Franklyne Road to the southern side of the corner intersection of Alexander Crescent and Franklyne Road as per the proposal picture below. This shows the sections of the road where the no stopping zones will be (broken yellow lines).

Benefits and impacts

  • The broken yellow lines are to stop people parking too close to the intersection of Alexander Crescent and Franklyne Road and near both school-controlled crossings. Cars parked there make it difficult for drivers to see people walking or children crossing which is a safety risk.
  • The proposed changes would improve access for emergency services to get through and makes it safer and easier for people walking or crossing the road.
  • To improve visibility and safety, this will result in the removal of 12 parking spaces. We understand the removal of parking can be inconvenient, so we have minimised it as much as possible while still making it safer for all road users, especially for students.
  • We remind all drivers to park correctly and avoid blocking driveways. Vehicles parked illegally may receive infringement notices or be towed away.

Tell us what you think of our proposed changes and if we’ve missed anything.
