Project outcome

Thank you to everyone who shared feedback on this project. Public engagement took place from 13 February to 2 March 2026, and letters were sent to Kedgley Intermediate School, Aorere College, nearby residents, and other members of community.

After reviewing all feedback received, we will be proceeding with the project as proposed.

Please find the project summary attached on this website for more information.

Next steps

We expect construction to take place by mid-2026. We will contact residents and property owners in the affected work areas before construction begins.

About the project

Woburn Street / Portage Road Intersection Upgrade

We’re planning upgrades at the Woburn Street and Portage Road intersection to make it safer and easier for people to cross. At the moment, there is no proper crossing on Woburn Street, which can make it difficult for people walking, cycling, or using mobility aids. The new design will add a safe crossing point and improve how everyone moves through the intersection. It will also make it easier to get to nearby homes and schools and help drivers see people crossing more clearly.

What we’re planning to do before June 2026

New pedestrian refuge crossing across Woburn Street, providing a safe place for people to pause when crossing.

Existing kerb to be moved back to increase the width of the lane.

New footpath and pram crossing leading up to the refuge crossing to improve overall pedestrian access.

Broken yellow lines (no stopping at all times) to keep parked vehicles away from crossing areas and maintain clear visibility for pedestrians and drivers.

Remove 15 parking spaces along Woburn Street and Portage Road to accommodate these safety improvements.

How this upgrade will benefit the community

  • Safer crossings for people with prams, wheelchairs, or mobility aids.

  • Better connections to local streets, homes and schools in the area.

  • Improved traffic flow and visibility for all road users.
