About this project
We’re improving walking safety by installing a footpath extension from #74 to #102 Wingate Street on the southern side to provide safe, convenient and well-connected walking options in your community. The new footpath will tie into the Te Whau Pathway delivered by Auckland Council.
This project is part of the of the Local Board Transport Capital Funding reallocation from the Whau Local Board: the at-grade section between Wingate Street and Rizal Reserve project. It will also include make it safer and easier for people living nearby and encourage safe walking options in your neighbourhood.
Changes we’re making by mid-2026
Install new footpath and kerbs on the southern side of Wingate Street between#74 to #102 Wingate Street. This new footpath will connect to the Te Whau Pathway (Section 2) delivered by Auckland Council.
Relocate the existing pram crossing outside #102 Wingate Street to outside #93 Wingate Street for connection with Te Whau Pathway.
Rebuild the driveways that will be affected by the new footpath. Any work that alters a driveway will be at our cost.
Paint no stopping at all times (broken yellow lines) between#74 to #102 Wingate Street to ensure visibility for motorists.
A drawing showing the changes is included below.
Benefits to your community
Footpaths make it safer for the community by separating motorists and traffic from people on foot.
Pram crossings are ramps at the kerb side that make it easier for people with prams, scooters, and wheelchairs to cross the road safely.
Well-maintained footpaths are safer for people who walk and ride their bikes and scooters, reducing the risk of being hurt or injured.
More footpaths make it easier for the community to move around the neighbourhood, offering better connections to schools, parks, public transport and other local amenities.
Walking and cycling are good for the environment and for your health. It helps reduce reliance on cars for local trips, decreasing traffic congestion and reducing our carbon emissions.
What happens next
We will be in touch with local residents and businesses prior to any work taking place.
Any change to the plan will be updated on our website.
