About the Project

We’re responding to requests from the community to improve footpath safety on Wade River Road in Whangaparaoa.

We aim to provide safe, convenient, and well-connected walking options in your community.

The Changes we're making

  • Build a new footpath and kerb on the northern side from 1 Wade River Road to 50 Link Crescent.
  • Regrade driveways where needed so they connect smoothly to the new footpath. Any work that alters a driveway shall be at our cost.
  • Clearing vegetation and relocating some trees to make space and clear access for people using the footpath.
  • Extend no stopping at all times restrictions (broken yellow lines) outside 27 Wade River Road. This ensures that motorists have better visibility when exiting Link Crescent by preventing parked vehicles from blocking their line of sight.
  • Install a new pram crossing and upgrade the crossing island at the intersection of Wade River Road and Link Crescent
  • Install new road markings to support these changes.

Benefits to your community

  • Footpaths make it safer for the community by separating motorists and traffic from people on foot. Widening the footpath gives more room for people and those in wheelchairs to pass one another.
  • Pram crossings ensure those with mobility needs, such as those with wheeled mobility devices, including people pushing prams and strollers, can navigate crossings more easily.
  • Well-maintained footpaths are safer for people who walk and ride their bikes and scooters, reducing the risk of being hurt or injured.
  • More footpaths make it easier and stress-free for the community to move around the neighbourhood, offering better connections to schools, parks, public transport, and other local amenities.
  • Walking is good for the environment and good for your health. It helps reduce reliance on cars for local trips, decreasing traffic congestion and reducing our carbon emissions.

What happens next

We will install these changes over Summer 2025/2026.

We will be in touch with residents before any work takes place.

Any change to the plan will be updated on this page.
