🚴‍♂️ Cyclists, ride through with ease - Shared Barnes Dance trial

We're rolling out a Shared Barnes Dance trial to make urban cycling smoother and more intuitive. This innovative signal phase allows cyclists and pedestrians to cross intersections in all directions simultaneously, eliminating the need for cyclists to dismount or wait for a separate green light.

🌟 Why Cyclists Will Love It

  • Stay on your bike: No need to hop off—ride legally through the intersection.
  • Quicker trips: No separate cycle signal means less waiting.
  • Better connectivity: Direct access to cycle paths and road links.
  • Improved traffic flow: A more harmonious rhythm for all road users.

📍 Trial Locations

You’ll find the Shared Barnes Dance in action at:

  • Victoria Street West / Nelson Street
  • Victoria Street West / Federal Street
  • Victoria Street West / Queen Street / Victoria Street East

🗓️ Trial Timeline

  • Starts mid-August 2025
  • Runs for approximately 12 months
  • Monitored by AT for safety and effectiveness
  • Approved by NZTA under Gazette Notice 2025-au2116

🚧 Part of a Bigger Movement

This trial complements the Te Hā Noa cycle path, soon opening from Queen Street to Federal Street, and reflects AT’s commitment to making cycling in Auckland safer, smarter, and more convenient.
