We are testing a simple idea to make your travel easier.
What we are doing
We are planning to install the travel time signs at the following locations:
Constellation Drive, Northshore (Outside Gilmours heading west towards SH1)
Te Atatu Road, Te Atatū Peninsula (Near Harbourview Orangihina Park heading south towards SH16)
Pakuranga Road, Pakuranga (Between Lewis Road and Greenhill Crescent heading west towards Ra Hihi Flyover)
Ti Rakau Drive, Pakuranga (between Mattson Road and Roseburn Place heading west)
Apirana Ave, Glen Innes (Before the Merton Road roundabout approaching from the south)
The intention is to place these real-time travel signs at key locations where commuters can be well-informed of their journey times and modes. Insights from these locations will help determine future rollout across the network.
How this technology works
Travel time by mode
This screen displays the live journey time of different transport mode options to a set destination. It is to provide commuters better insight into alternate ways to travel and create awareness about travel options available. An example of how the screens will look is here.
Travel time by different time intervals
Using historical data this screen gives commuters travelling by car insight into when congestion to a set destination is at its highest. It then provides alternate times to travel around that peak time to potentially shift their behaviour. An example of how the screens will look ishere.
For both screens, the information is designed to be quick and easy for people to read, while they're on the move.
What this means for you
This project is about making travel simpler and more transparent. It does not direct people how to travel. Instead, it provides clear information so people can decide what works best for their journey.
It also builds on investment already being made in the network, by helping people see the value of different travel options more clearly.

Once the location is confirmed, we will prepare the site and build what’s needed to install the sign.
This includes setting up the power supply and building the foundations for the poles and signs.
Traffic management will be in place to keep both the public and workers safe. Nearby residents will receive letters about any temporary traffic changes.
The concrete foundations need time to fully set before the poles and signs can be installed.
Most of the work will be done at night to reduce disruption to traffic.
Phase 3 - Install the travel-time signs (September/October)
