Tiverton Road and Maioro Street are busy roads that can become heavily congested, especially during the morning peak period.  

The T2 lane aims to improve bus reliability, and speed up travel times for people who can use the transit lane. This means that more people will be able to get through Tiverton Road and Maioro Street during the morning peak.   

The T2 lane may only be used by buses, motorbikes, mopeds, bicycles, passenger service vehicles, and vehicles with two or more people (including the driver).    

This restriction only applies from 6.30am to 9.30am, Monday to Friday. At other times, this lane will be a normal traffic lane which everyone can use.  

We listened to feedback, including from residents along Maioro Street and its side streets told us they had concerns about the removal of the median strip on Maioro Street. This would limit or remove their ability to turn right during peak hours.  

The community suggested installing a transit lane (T2 or T3) as an alternative to dynamic lanes. We investigated these suggestions and found that we would be able to achieve the same project objectives with a T2 lane.  

The raised pedestrian crossing on Maioro Road and the raised intersection at New Windsor Road/Maioro Road will will be 75mm high, with slope of a 1:15 gradient.  

This is a gentle slope that will make it more comfortable for people in buses and other heavy vehicles going over it. 

Existing bus stops near the intersection upgrade or the new proposed crossing need to be relocated short distances. This is to ensure clear lines of sight, and adequate room for the bus driver to manoeuvre in and out of the stop. 

We are also proposing to remove Stop 8299 to optimise this bus route.
